What’s Causing the Peanut Allergy Epidemic?

by

We interviewed Heather Fraser, author of The Peanut Allergy Epidemic: What’s Causing It and How to Stop It, about what’s causing the peanut allergy epidemic and what can be done about it. Peanut anaphylaxis, the severe and life-threatening allergy to peanuts, is something that every parent dreads for their child.

Heather became intimately involved with the peanut-allergy epidemic after her child had an anaphylactic reaction to peanut butter. Heather examined the clues and potential causes of this epidemic which she told us about in this interview.

We talked about:

  • Why the peanut allergy epidemic only seems to be found in Western cultures
  • Why there was a sharp rise in this epidemic around 1990
  • What is the cause of this epidemic, and do pharmaceuticals play a role
  • What can be done about peanut allergies

About Heather Fraser

In 1995, Heather’s one-year-old son Woody reacted violently with anaphylaxis to a taste of peanut butter. Her shock was rivaled only by her confusion at the time about what had happened and why. She quickly learned, however, that they were not alone. Her son was part of a first massive wave of severely allergic children who arrived for kindergarten at schools across Canada, the UK, Australia and the U.S.

This sudden phenomenon of life-threatening allergy just in kids in specific countries occurred simultaneously, without warning and quickly intensified. These events drove her to write her books The Peanut Allergy Epidemic: What’s Causing It and How to Stop It as well as Allergy Relief: Using Acupressure to Help Relieve Minor Allergy Symptoms.

She performs her BodyTalk Practitioner work at D’Avignon Digestive Health in Toronto, Canada. You can find out more about Heather’s work at her website www.peanutallergyepidemic.com
